OnePlus Nord vs Motorola Moto G 5G  

Many people thought that OnePlus Nord will be the most affordable 5G phone launched in 2020 but it seems like the title has been taken away from the Oneplus. There is a new competitor in the market i.e Motorola Moto 5G which is currently India’s most affordable 5G smartphone. Now let’s look into the specifications and conclude which is worth buying. 

Design:-

• The OnePlus Nord flaunts a very familiar design and the company hasn’t tried any experiment here. OnePlus Nord feels premium touch and weight, as it is well balanced and the handset feels very compact to hold. The device comes with Corning Gorilla Glass 5 protection on front and back sides. However, OnePlus Nord doesn’t have an IP rating for dust and water resistance. Oneplus claims that it can withstand water splashes. 
• The Moto G 5G is built really well though it has a plastic body. It really looks trendy with the slight gradient finish. However, the glass-emulating glossy finish on the Moto G 5G is not up to the mark. A matte finish with some exciting gradients could look better. Even a simple matte black finish could have worked to uplift the appeal. 

Display:-

• OnePlus has made no compromise with the display which is very similar to the flagship OnePlus 8. OnePlus Nord consists of a 6.44 inch AMOLED dual punch hole 1080p display with 20:9 aspect ratio and a pixel density of 408 PPI. The phone comes with a 90Hz refresh rate. Having a higher refresh rate improves the gaming experience. Oneplus Nord features reading mode, bedtime mode, Zen mode and dark mode having all these features on this smartphone makes Oneplus Nord a better midrange smartphone.
• Coming to the Moto G 5G you’ll get a 6.67-inch display with 20:9 aspect ratio, but due to the cost-cutting, the company had to choose an IPS LCD HDR10 display with a 1080p panel. It has a 60Hz refresh rate and while it is in the lower side compared to OnePlus Nord’s 90Hz. Having a standard 60Hz phone isn’t that bad at this price point. The screen is vibrant and pretty big so that you can enjoy a movie or a web series. The viewing angles are good and when you step out, you would not be disappointed as the display manages the brightness quite well. 

Software and Performance:-

• Oneplus Nord is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 765G-5G processor with Adreno 620 GPU. OnePlus Nord runs on Oxygen OS 10.5 based on Android 10 and looks very clean compared to other smartphones at this price range. The in-display fingerprint sensor offered by the OnePlus Nord isn’t the best due to fewer software optimizations, this dual sim smartphone can support only one 5G network at a time, it has Bluetooth 5.1, NFC, GPS, and NavIC support. Coming to the performance it performs well when it comes to gaming and multitasking but it’s not the quickest, users may notice some lag while opening heavy apps. The phone gives a very good user experience without any software issues or any app crashes for an average user with occasional gaming. OnePlus has always handled the performance demands. 
• Motorola has introduced the Snapdragon 750G, this midrange 5G chipset is also responsible for comfortably fast and smooth operations that one gets to experience with Moto G 5G. Theoretically benchmarks reveal that the Snapdragon 750G is almost at par with the Snapdragon 765G in terms of performance. The main takeaway is the stock Android experience it would not beat Oxygen OS but if you come from devices like Vivo, Xiaomi and Realme you would not be disappointed. Despite the stock interface, the company lets you tweak some elements of the UI with its MyUX app. 

Camera’s:-

ONEPLUS NORD

• OnePlus Nord’s primary camera captures some crisp shots in bright to average lighting with good dynamic range. Auto HDR is turned on by default and it doesn’t overexpose the image. Like most OnePlus phones, the colours feel slightly saturated. In high-contrast images, the objects in shadows exhibit a different shade of colour. Despite this captured images look sharp with a good amount of detail. The 8 MP ultra-wide camera has fixed-focus, which provides you a 119-degree field of view. The image quality is average in best scenarios which is at par with most of the other 8 MP ultra-wide sensors. Again in good lighting, they look more than decent. As the light starts to drop, it’s better if you let the main camera do the heavy lifting. It’s better not to discuss more about the other two cameras i.e. Portrait (5MP) & Macro (2MP). These are simply added by the company to make it a quad-camera setup.

MOTOROLA MOTO 5G

• The Moto G 5G uses a 48MP sensor with f/1.7 aperture for the main camera. This is accompanied by another 8-megapixel ultra-wide camera and 2-megapixel macro camera. When it comes to the image processing it’s quite good but the dynamic range which isn’t great. The Moto G 5G delivers well for most of the casual photographers  The Moto G 5G handles exposures and colours really well in the challenging light conditions which weren’t expected. The camera performance at night is really good considering its price tag, the ultra-wide camera is also good in day-light. The macro camera isn’t the sharpest one because of it’s 2-megapixel sensor. Now coming to the selfies, the 16-megapixel front camera looks good with bright colours and good contrasts. I way this camera manages it’s exposure & white balance in the background was suprising. Portrait mode in selfies worked as expected, with proper cutouts and decent level of depth effect. 

Battery:-

• Oneplus Nord has a 4115 mAh battery with 30W WarpCharge (5V/6A) which is a important factor considered while buying a smartphone. OnePlus Nord can charge from 0-50 percent in just 30 minutes which is pretty good and Nord can easily last for a day.
• Motorola packs 5000 mAh battery & the charging speeds are on the slower side with a 20W fast charger in the box and it takes almost 1.5 hours for the battery to reach above 90 percent from sub-10 percent charge level. When 5G arrives in India it is going to suck out more battery from your 5G phone. The fact why Motorola chose a big 5000mAh battery is to counter this battery drain issue. But all we can see here is a good battery backup which can easily lasts for a day and still spares up with 15% of the battery. 

Final verdict:-

OnePlus Nord is an affordable all-rounder which is hard to ignore and the most obvious question, is it worth buying Nord against Moto G 5G? Absolutely yes, if you want a 5G phone under 30.000 with reasonable processing power, good camera and best Android UI in the market. Still the Moto G 5G is an amazing phone in many aspects. For smartphone enthusiasts like us, this is what we have been waiting for a long time in the sub-Rs 25,000 category. A clean Android experience with a fast and future-proof chip, long battery life and good cameras which is a combination that many users seek at this price range. Thus, Moto G 5G became the most affordable 5G smartphone in India.
