Qualcomm® Snapdragon™ 888

During the Annual Qualcomm’s Tech Summit 2020, Qualcomm has introduced Snapdragon’s upcoming most powerful mobile processor i.e. Snapdragon 888. Snapdragon 888 will be the flagship chip-set of 2021.

Key features-

CPU:-

Snapdragon 888 is a 64-bit octa-core processor and is based on 5nm technology that gives better battery life. The processor comes with all-new Arm Cortex X1 Prime core clocked at 2.84GHz, Arm Cortex A78 clocked at 2.4 GHz (3x performance) and Arm Cortex A55 efficiency cores with a base frequency of 1.8GHz (4x efficiency). The kryo 680 CPU gives 25% boost in overall CPU performance.

GPU:-

Snapdragon 888 comes with Adreno 660 GPU which can render graphics 35% faster than previous generations & is armed with Qualcomm Snapdragon Elite Gaming arsenal. For the first time to mobile devices, snapdragon 888 brings Variable Rate Shading (VRS) which improves the game rendering process by up to 30%. Thus making the gameplay ultra-smooth at the highest HDR quality graphics.

RAM and Storage:-

Snapdragon 888 can support upto 16GB of RAM and talking about RAM speed, it can prop-up upto 2133 MHz LPDDR5 and 2750 MHz LPDDR4X type RAM,  which gives speedy system performance. Coming to the storage, it supports EMMC 5.1, UFS 2.1, UFS 2.2, UFS 3.0 and UFS 3.1.

Camera:-

Talking about the camera this mammoth processor not only have better performance than its predecessor (sd865+) but also packs major upgrades in the camera it has all-new triple Qualcomm spectra 580 ISPs(image signal processor) by which phones can shoot videos and capture images with all the three cameras. (Which we got to see from the iPhone 11 pro variants). The camera captures three 4k HDR videos simultaneously. All the three cameras got supported by MFNR(Multi-Frame Noise Reduction) which compared to snapdragon 865+ had only a single camera supported MFNR.

Thanks to the low light architecture we can capture brighter images even in near-darkness. Even it has first AI-based autofocus and auto exposure. Its supports upto 200MP for a single camera, 64MP for the dual camera, 28MP for triple camera.

Video:-

It supports 4K HDR video with Computational HD, 8K video recording at 30fps. It also supports Dolby Vision, H.265 (HEVC), HDR10+, HLG, HDR10, H.264 (AVC), VP8, VP9 codec’s. Slo-Mo Video Capture supports upto 720p @ 960 FPS. Color depth video capture is upto 10-bit.

Display:-

As compared to the previous version (SD 865+), this time Qualcomm has upgraded to 4K display at 60HZ refresh rate (2160×3840p), QHD+ display at 144HZ (1440×3360p) and also supports HDR, HDR10, HDR10+, and color depth upto 10-bit.

LTE Modem:-

Snapdragon 888 chipset has support for Dynamic Spectrum Sharing (DSS), mmWave(2×2 MIMO) and Sub-6GHz(100 MHz bandwidth) it uses Qualcomm® Snapdragon™ X60 5G Modem-RF System. The maximum upload speed reaches upto 3 Gbps and maximum download speed reaches upto 7.5 Gbps.

Security:-

Mobile security involves protecting both business information as well as personal information which is stored and transmitted from smartphones, tablets, and other devices. This time Qualcomm has focused more on Security. Thanks to advanced Secure Processing Unit (SPU) which plays a crucial role in Biometric Authentication(Fingerprint, Iris, Voice and Facial recognition). It is designed to protect biometrics, payment information, and SIM data. It also uses Fingerprint Sensor of Qualcomm® 3D Sonic and 3D Sonic Max.
