Snapdragon 678 – A Renovated 675

Snapdragon 678 is the latest chipset in Qualcomm’s snapdragon 600- series. The Snapdragon 678 is quite similar to Snapdragon 675, which was launched two years ago. Qualcomm’s new processor have bought some small significant improvements in CPU and as well as GPU, thus providing a better gaming experience, excellent photography and video streaming options. We might see mid-range smartphones featuring the Snapdragon 678 processor this year.

CPU and GPU:-
  • Snapdragon 678 chipset is based on 11nm architecture, 64-bit octa-core processor that includes one Kryo 460 Prime (Cortex-A76) clocked at 2.2GHz, one Kryo 475 Gold (Cortex-A76) clocked at 2.2GHz and six Kryo 475 Silver (Cortex-A55) clocked at 1.8GHz.
  • Coming to GPU, Snapdragon 678 comes with Adreno 612 GPU. The company promises increased frame rates by eliminating frame drops and speed up the graphics rendering process. In comparison with Snapdragon 675, Qualcomm has slightly improved CPU and GPU for the better gaming experience.
RAM and STORAGE:-

Snapdragon 678 can support upto 8GB of RAM and talking about its speed, it can prop-up upto 1866 MHz LPDDR4X type RAM. Now coming to the storage, it supports EMMC 5.1, UFS 2.1.

Camera:-

This processor is capable of supporting 25 MP single camera and 16 MP dual cameras with multi-frame noise reduction (MFNR) and zero shutter lag (ZSL). It comes with Qualcomm Spectra 250L image signal processor which can support features like portrait mode, low-light capture, 5x optical zoom and much more. Its main feature is to increase the electronic image stabilization (EIS).

Video:-

It supports 4K HDR videos at 30 FPS with Computational HD recording at 60 FPS. It supports H.265 (HEVC), H.264 (AVC), VP8 & VP9 playback. Slo-Mo Video Capture supports upto 1080p @ 120 FPS and 720p @ 240 FPS. For Video Software, Qualcomm uses Motion Compensated Temporal Filtering (MCTF).

Display:-

The SoC supports FHD+ at 60Hz display with a maximum resolution of 2520×1080 pixels, it supports 10-bit colour depth display and you can also experience 4K ultra HD by attaching external display.

Connectivity:-

Snapdragon 678 SoC has support for Dynamic Spectrum Sharing (DSS). This time, no changes in Modem as it continues to use Qualcomm® Snapdragon™ X12 LTE modem. The maximum upload speed reaches upto 150 Mbps and maximum download speed reaches upto 600 Mbps. It has Dual-SIM VoLTE support and 3x20MHz downlink, 2×20 MHz uplink carrier aggregation support as well.

For Wi-Fi Standards, it uses 802.11ac Wave 2, 802.11a/b/g, 802.11n and Spectral Bands of 2.4GHz, 5GHz. Talking about the BlueTooth version, it uses Bluetooth 5.0 and Bluetooth Speed reaches upto 2 Mbps.
